As specialist stonemasons and conservators, the company carries out projects on historic buildings throughout the midlands and has built a reputation for its high standards, excellent craftsmanship, reliability, value for money and good service.
Our success is due to having a committed team of skilled and qualified conservators, masons and stone carvers who are experienced in all aspects of stone conservation and restoration.
Mark Stafford comes from a family of stonemasons dating back to the 1700’s in the High Peak area of Derbyshire and was formerly Master Stonemason for the City of Nottingham where he worked on three internationally important Grade I listed sites: Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Hall and Newstead Abbey.
His extensive masonry training in England was complemented by gaining an MSc in stone conservation from Bournemouth University and by training in Venice at the European Centre for the Conservation of Architectural Heritage.
Having worked with historic buildings as a craftsman, manager and consultant, he is able to offer clients a unique combination of academic knowledge and practical skills.
Every member in our team is fully qualified, having undertaken formal apprenticeships combining college-based study and site work. They are experienced in all aspects of sensitive stone repair and restoration and can undertake projects from initial survey, design and carving of the stone to the final fixing and finishing thereby ensuring that all projects receive the same care and attention to detail.
We are proud to maintain a training programme (on site and at college) through our membership of the CITB to ensure that the skills of the craft are preserved for future generations.
"Our site is a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument. Mark has always provided a high quality service, is quick to respond in an emergency, prompt when undertaking work, efficient and competitively priced.
His team of skilled craftsmen use quality materials within the requirements of our site, always works with due care and attention to our needs and that of our customers whilst also working within our strict health and safety requirements."
