| Mark Stafford is a highly experienced and qualified stonemason (having undertaken extensive training courses in England and Italy) who also has a masters degree in stone conservation. He specialises in the conservation and restoration of ecclesiastical and historic buildings, monuments and all types of architecural and decorative stonework. He is based in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, and undertakes work throughout the midlands area (Notts, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Staffordshire) although he is happy to travel further afield if necessary.
He comes from a long line of traditional stonemasons dating back to the 1700's in the High Peak area of Derbyshire and before starting his own business in March 2003, he was the head stonemason for Nottingham City Council responsible for leading and training the team of masons carrying out the various tasks involved in the restoration and conservation of the City Council's historic buildings. This predominantly entailed working on three grade I listed sites: Nottingham Castle (a C17 Ducal Palace with medieval remains), Wollaton Hall (a superb C16 Elizabethan great house) and Newstead Abbey (originally a C12 Augustian Priory and later home to the poet Lord Byron).
Since starting his own business he has undertaken work for English Heritage, The National Trust, Local Authorities, numerous parish churches, and country estates and has built a very good reputation not only for his high standards and quality of craftmanship but also reliability, value for money and good service.

He is an experienced banker mason, fixer mason and stone conservator and, using traditional tools and methods allied to modern techniques where appropriate, he is able to carry out projects, both large and small, from initial survery, design and carving the stone to the final fixing and finishing, thereby ensuring that all projects from memorials to large churches and country houses receives the same care and attention to detail.
He has appeared on local radio and television on numerous occasions to discuss his craft and historic stone buildings. APPRENTICE
The company is a great believer in training the next generation of master craftsmen. To this end, we currently fund one stonemasonry apprentice, Marco Paolini, who is currently achieving excellent results during his training on site and at Weymouth College where he is studying for his stonemasonry NVQ.
