Window Grilles

In the recent past, in order to provide protection from vandalism, many stained-glass church windows have been covered over, externally, with a thick sheet of clear plastic.

Over time the plastic turns a dull yellow colour and greatly reduces the volume of sunlight from passing through. The result is that the vibrant, internal appearance of the stained-glass, when illuminated with clear sunlight, becomes much diminished and dulled when shielded by the yellow plastic.

In order to retain the protection required, but without reducing the illumination of sunlight, the yellow plastic can be replaced by the installation of stainless-steel wire window grilles.

These are bespoke items, and have to be carefully shaped to match the lines and curves of each window, even when a window consists of many individual elements of complicated tracery.

The care given to matching the shape of the window ensures that the grille has neat, clean lines and fits snuggly within the window masonry.
